Principles of Finance

This is an introductory course in finance. It systematically introduces basic theories and key knowledge of finance, and particularly discusses three important concepts in finance: financial markets and institutions, investments, and financial management. It starts from the discussion of modern financial systems, introduces the concept of firm and its valuation, and discusses corporate decision, financial management, and investment decision. The course intends to provide a solid foundation for other more advanced courses of the program such as investment and financial market, corporate finance, and financial derivatives.


Principles of Accounting

This subject introduces the discipline of financial accounting. It enables students to apply basic financial theories, analyze financial reports and understand the operation of financial markets. On successfully completing this subject, students will be able to:

  • Appreciate the role and importance of accounting information in assisting decision-making in a business context.

  • Undertake the work involved in the recording, processing, summarizing and reporting phases of the accounting cycle.

  • Understand the assumptions, principles and conventions underlying financial accounting processes.

  • Apply basic analytical tools for the interpretation of financial statements.


Principles of Business Statistics

A rigorous introduction to probability, mathematical statistics and statistical analysis, including such topics as data description and analysis, elementary probability theory, and simple and multiple regression analysis. Emphasis is placed on applications in economics and business problems.
